A day or so of doing nothing should be required work. But is it worth it to fall farther back while piles of things unattended still need tending to? A question I can’t answer and one that must stump more than just a few of us. I can’t help but think I used to work harder, faster and get more done. Looking back and reflecting on a canon of work, there is some. Sadly quantity doesn’t always equal quality. Everything can’t get done. Okay, if you say so. So what gets done will have to be done a little better every day. Sounds like a plan.

I have spent most of my life living in the West Indies, and in Belize, Central America. (stateside at the time).

Being the son of an artist, I had my drawing table next to my dad's. I think that I was four years old then. Later on at my tenth birthday, I was given my first camera and that started me into photography. After many years of experience as a teacher, photographer,printmaker and illustrator, I retired, and have return to the fine arts. I have set up my studio and doing what I like. If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing come together.

"A life’s journey begins and ends with a single breathe bound by the limitations of each man’s intellect, while expanded by the scope of their imagination and compassion. During this journey, accomplishments are judged as either fleeting moments or lasting imprints. Nonetheless, no one escapes the angst of his or her future – no one has been promised his or her tomorrow.

Fortunately, I learned early in life that happiness is found in the complexity of life’s journey; that champions conquer through perseverance and passion, pose the unanswerable questions, and understand others through empathy.

With a little flexibility in our thought process, we have the power to make the journey one of little regret and much reward. Thus, there is no reason why one’s life should not leave an imprint."

My favourite people in the arts are: Victor Hugo, C.S Lewis, (writers). John Waterhouse, Erik James Pegg (illustrator), Carl Larsson(painters), Isadora Duncan (dancer), Two of my faviourite ballets are The Red Shoes, and The Tales Of Hoffmann. Rod Mckuen (poet), Fritz Henle (photographer), Andriete Le Secq (photographer) , Tutku Tokol (photographer) & Julia Margaret Cameron (photographer),
Music, I Love it!, Ayşegül Yeşilnil, Lila Downs, Gloria Estefan, Carmine D'amico, Bebel Gilberto, Fernando Ortega, Eliane Elias, Norah Jones, Stan Getz , and the list goes on.

Kindness is just about the nicest thing there is. It is the principle of friendship and the essence of love.

I wake up...

I wake up wondering, not knowing where I am. What time is it? Where am I? Geographically Nacogdoches, Texas oldest Town, in my thoughts and in my head I am no place. Nowhere that I have been before. I am away, that much is so. Nothing is familiar. But it has been this way for some days now.

I pass by mirrors and walk with my reflection, go out into the cool morning mist and see my breath before me, buy things and pay for them with money from the bottom of my jeans. Elicit smiles and offtimes get them back, write my name and see it on the page in front of me, throw pieces of bread to the ducks in the pond. People not known to me recognize me and so I am.

I participate, act out, and think all these things are tangibles, done, seen by me. I am alive. I function. If I sleep the wrong way and wake up knotted, I feel the pain. I caught my finger in the door a week ago and the swelling hasn’t yet gone down. Though it almost never rings I answer the telephone and hear myself speak. Proof that I’m alive. I react, I have reactions. But I am not here; as sure as I am not in Christiansted or driving through the mud of Belize. I cannot discern how long I’ve been away or if I’m still in transport. I might be on the edge of dying or living. Clearly I am on the edge. That may be a good thing, I can feel a new painting coming on. :) (Smile)
